You should consider whether your lifestyle suits dog ownership, the time commitment required, the costs of vet care and insurance, and how a dog will fit with existing family members and pets. Dogs should not be left alone for extended periods and need training, exercise and love.
In most cases the dog will be homed where there is someone at home for part of the day or access to a dog walker; a secure garden with suitable fencing or a suitable plan for toilet needs if living in a flat; no cats unless dog is cat-friendly; and children over five unless previous history with young children is confirmed.
The minimum adoption donation is £400. This donation is not a payment for the dog but a contribution towards rescue costs. The actual cost to the charity of rescuing a dog (transport, vet care and general care) is often much higher, so additional donations are welcomed to help more dogs. Adoption donations are non-refundable.
Yes. Jersey Rescue Dogs asks adopters to stay in touch and may contact you for welfare updates. They reserve the right to inspect the dog’s wellbeing if there is concern.

Yes - adopters relocating off-island are permitted, but please ensure you can meet the dog’s needs, have appropriate transport arrangements and understand local licensing requirements. Let us know your plans when applying.
If your circumstances change and you are no longer able to care for your dog, you must contact Jersey Rescue Dogs.
Under our Adoption Agreement,(https://www.jerseyrescuedogs.co.uk/adoptionagreement) dogs must not be sold, given away or rehomed privately. We will work with you to assess the situation and, where necessary, take the dog back into our care and find a suitable new home.
We understand that life circumstances can change. Our priority is always the welfare and safety of the dog, and we are here to support responsible owners in doing the right thing.
We ask that you complete an application form first. This helps us understand your home environment and ensures we are arranging meetings that are in the best interests of each dog. If your application is a good match, we will be in touch to arrange next steps.
Yes, where appropriate. Each dog is assessed individually and some will happily live with other dogs, while others may need to be the only dog in the home. Introductions will be carefully managed.
Where age and health allow, dogs are neutered, vaccinated and microchipped prior to adoption. Any specific medical details will always be discussed with you.
Yes. Dogs are assessed in foster or kennel environments and we are open and honest about what we know regarding their temperament, needs and training requirements.
Timescales vary depending on the dog and the number of applications received. We are run entirely by volunteers, so we appreciate your patience while we work through enquiries.
